Hong Kong: Shell close to sealing deal to be first supplier of LNG to the city

In line with Hong Kong’s massive transition to using more natural gas to fuel its electric power generation from coal, Shell has edged out competitors such as Petronas to become the first supplier of LNG through a long term contract to CLP Power, a Hong Kong utility. The supply agreement, which is still subject to a FID for an offshore LNG import terminal, will make Shell supply about 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG for about 10 years from 2020. Italian firm to boost gas infrastructure with $6.4 billion investment

Snam, an Italian natural gas infrastructure firm, has announced plans to invest $6.4 billion between 2017 and 2021 to boost natural gas infrastructure, following a sustained growth in gas demand. The firm seeks to allocate 88.4% of the total investment into the transportation network which will include development of a high pressure network in Sardinia. 11.5% of the investment is planned to be used for storage and regasification projects as well as for the maintenance and replacement of 650km of transportation network sections. Polish Gaz-system wants to partner with Australian companies in the LNG sector

Gaz-system, a major LNG terminal operator in Poland seeks to attract more Australian companies to work with it in construction of gas pipelines, LNG technology and subsea pipelines. English MP calls for boycott of Russian gas

MP for PreseliPembrokeshire, Stephen Crabb, has urged the British PM to stop imports of LNG from Russia, following allegations of use of a nerve agent against a former Russian spy in Salisbury. Fears have arisen concerning the dependence of the UK on Russia for gas supply and MrCrabb said “Russia deliberately tries to extend its influence across Europe through its Energy supplies.
