We have already mentioned that Indoor air pollution, largely due to cooking activities using dirty fuels, is a leading cause of death globally.

In spite of giant strides in terms of economic development and rising prosperity in recent years, solid fuels still dominate residential energy use in less developed  countries, accounting for  just over half  of all the energy used by households there (IEA, 2012).

In countries like Nigeria, cooking is the major use of solid fuels,  since ambient temperatures are higher, hence space and water heating needs are much lower. Reports indicate that over 470,000 women in Nigeria have died in the last five years.

Taking into consideration also, the largely unprofessional and outright dangerous layouts of buildings, particularly in slums and low-income settlements which usually do not meet proper air regulatory  standards.

This worsens the situation as there is not sufficient outlet for the poisonous CO emissions.

So the question remains, what is the most effective, and affordable solution to provide clean cooking to women in these developing countries?
